Joanna Shennan: Life and observation are part of ‘research.’ There is a fragility and a limited life span to the natural environment. A sketchbook should be a constant companion. Studio space can provide inspiration: ie, what you put on the walls and shelves around you. Be open to a broad range of influences; consult other friends and artists. Attend workshops not only to improve and expand skills but also to contribute to ones artistic development.
Talk about your work. Apply for exhibits, present proposals. Put work out there, eg Instagram. Finish work when ever possible. But one can ‘park’ the difficult pieces for a while.
