Block 2 activity 1 – your experience with open education

“Publish a blog post that describes your experience with open education. Is it just with the OU, or have you studied a MOOC”

I have both used and created open educational resources.

I created a short guide to the program eXeLearning (an eLearning designer based on Mozilla Firefox). This was in the form of a course created in eXeLearning and distributed as a SCORM and .elp which is the file format of eXe. This is hosted on the wiki educator site (Baxter 2011). The resource was also translated into German.

I completed the Open University course ‘how to succeed in postgraduate study’ (OU 2020) before commencing this unit.

I found this OER to be engaging even though I was working alone. The way the tasks are constructed provides you with feedback to some text that you provide. There are also research activities, PROMPT and critical reflection activities.

I have suggested an open educational resource (a keeping warm) course be created for our institution for pre-enrolment students. I covered the background to this in my TMA01.  I am hoping to discover many more sources of OERs and through the module discover how they might fit together to create the course.

  1. I really like your idea of a ‘keeping warm’ course Stephen. I link to a college and this would be very useful for them to think about while students are waiting to access the Nursing Associate programme.
